How to Enable and Use Wi-Fi Calling

Wi-Fi Calling allows you to make and receive calls over a Wi-Fi network when your cellular service is weak or unavailable. Below are step-by-step instructions for enabling Wi-Fi Calling on both iPhone and Android devices.


For iPhone Users

  1. Open Settings Tap the Settings app on your home screen.

  2. Go to Phone Settings Scroll down and tap Cellular.

  3. Enable Wi-Fi Calling Tap Wi-Fi Calling, then toggle on Wi-Fi Calling on This iPhone.

  4. Confirm Emergency Address Your carrier may prompt you to enter an emergency address for 911 purposes. Follow the on-screen instructions to set it up.

  5. Verify Wi-Fi Calling is On Once enabled, look at the status bar. You’ll see “Wi-Fi” next to your carrier’s name when Wi-Fi Calling is active.


For Android Users

Note: Steps may vary slightly depending on your phone’s brand and carrier.

  1. Open Settings Swipe down and tap the Settings app.

  2. Go to Network & Internet Tap Connections or Network & Internet.

  3. Select Wi-Fi Calling Look for Wi-Fi Calling and tap it.

  4. Turn on Wi-Fi Calling Toggle the switch to ON.

  5. Confirm Emergency Address If prompted, enter an emergency address for 911 services.

  6. Verify Wi-Fi Calling is Active When connected to Wi-Fi, your phone should display “Wi-Fi Calling” in the status bar or next to your carrier’s name.


Forcing Wi-Fi Calling When Cellular Signal is Weak

If your cellular signal is poor and you want to force your phone to use Wi-Fi Calling, follow these additional steps.

For iPhone Users

  1. Turn on Wi-Fi Calling (If Not Already Enabled) Go to SettingsCellularWi-Fi Calling, and toggle on Wi-Fi Calling on This iPhone.

  2. Disable Cellular to Force Wi-Fi Calling

    • Open Control Center: Swipe down from the top-right (iPhone X or later) or swipe up (older models).
    • Tap Airplane Mode to turn it on (this disables cellular signals).
    • Turn on Wi-Fi manually and connect to your network.
  3. Make a Call & Verify Wi-Fi Calling is Active Check the status bar—it should show “Wi-Fi” next to your carrier’s name. Make a test call to confirm it’s working.

For Android Users

  1. Turn on Wi-Fi Calling Go to SettingsConnections (or Network & Internet), tap Wi-Fi Calling, and turn it ON.

  2. Disable Cellular to Force Wi-Fi Calling

    • Option 1: Go to SettingsConnectionsMobile Networks, then select Wi-Fi Only under Preferred Network Type (if available).
    • Option 2 (if “Wi-Fi Only” isn’t an option):
      • Turn on Airplane Mode or disable Mobile Data.
      • Turn Wi-Fi back on manually and connect to your network.
  3. Verify Wi-Fi Calling is Active Look at the status bar for “Wi-Fi Calling” or a Wi-Fi symbol next to your carrier’s name. Make a test call to ensure it works.


Additional Notes

  • Carrier Support: If you don’t see the Wi-Fi Calling option, your carrier may not support it. Contact them for assistance.
  • Stable Connection: You must be connected to a reliable Wi-Fi network for Wi-Fi Calling to function properly.

Troubleshooting Tips

If Wi-Fi Calling isn’t working after forcing it:

  • Restart your phone and try again.
  • Move closer to your Wi-Fi router for a stronger signal.
  • Check your carrier’s website for additional settings or requirements.
